Service businesses have an unusual advantage: two separate audiences on the same property. Technicians buy daily out of habit, and customers are trapped in a waiting room for an hour with nothing to do.
Technicians are the reliable half
Shop work is hot, physical, and continuous. Technicians buy drinks daily — it's a routine, not an occasional purchase. In a Texas summer, an unconditioned bay makes that a multiple-times-a-day routine. This is the steady base of any shop placement.
Customers are the upside
A customer waiting on an oil change or a tire mount is a captive audience in the most literal sense: their car is on a lift. They'd rather be anywhere else, and a cold drink measurably improves how that wait feels.
A drink doesn't make the wait shorter. It makes it feel shorter, which is the part your customers actually remember.
The two questions that decide it
Is there a convenience store within walking distance?
If yes, be honest with us and we'll be honest back. Vending doesn't compete on price — it competes on the fact that leaving is annoying. A store across the parking lot removes that advantage entirely, and we'd rather tell you a site won't work than place equipment that sits idle.
Do you already give drinks away?
Plenty of Waco shops keep a fridge of free sodas for customers. That's a genuine hospitality choice and it works. If that's your model, a paid machine will undercut it and we'd suggest not bothering — though a staff-only placement in the back can still make sense.
Placement
The waiting room, if it's a reasonable size and customers actually sit in it. If your waiting area is two chairs and a coffee pot, the shop floor or the break area serves your technicians better and is the more reliable revenue.
What to tell us
- How many technicians you have on at once
- Typical customer wait time, and whether they wait or drop off
- Whether there's a store within a short walk
- Whether you currently provide free drinks
